PATH Project

The P.A.T.H. Project; Pro-active Approach To Health.

People often know what steps they need to take to become healthier, but making changes in difficult circumstances is much easier said than done.

We believe that homeless people are not ‘the problem’ but instead can create their own solutions to improve lives.

Bradford Alliance on Community Care (BACC) has successfully secured 3 years funding from Bradford and Airedale Teaching Primary Care Trust (TPCT). This funding is to set up a new health promotion project with and for people experiencing homelessness/living in Supported Housing. Bradford Speakout will have a key role in supporting the development of this exciting project.

A major part of the project will be to involve homeless people in helping to improve health in hostels, and other supported accommodation, through work as volunteers. Project work will focus on encouraging people to ‘take one step at a time’ on the right P.A.T.H.; taking a Pro-active Approach To Health &

the Down to Earth project

Making incremental changes to lifestyle can have a real impact on health, such as eating a healthier diet, protecting ourselves to ensure sexual health, cutting down or stopping smoking, or learning about how to minimise risk around drug and alcohol use.

Do you have experience of homelessness and want to help people living in Supported Housing to improve their health? We will offer you training in health education and support you as you develop your knowledge and skill. Training will be available to volunteers to help them learn about a wide variety of health issues, including smoking, drug and alcohol problems, healthy eating, emotional wellbeing and healthy sexual choices. Following induction and training volunteers will have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of project work.

Out of pocket expenses will be paid to cover refreshments, travel, childcare etc.
